Congress to settle for Bumi status
Sheena says:
I am writing this post because I was intrigued by the implied notion in this excerpt that Bumiputeras have less privileges than Malays.
What privileges do Malays have that Bumiputeras do not have?
Why do Bumiputeras not have them?
What makes members of indigenous minorities any less a son of the Earth than a Malay? How is it possible that a man, who was born to an Indonesian immigrant, has more privileges as a Malay, compared to people born of countless generations bred in Malaysia?
Lest we forget, “Bumiputera” is no synonym for “Malay”. In fact, a quote taken from the president of the Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress seems to imply that non-Malay Bumis are second class to Malays. Sheena speaks her mind.
